UFC contract winner ready to impress with highlight-reel finishes

by

LAS VEGAS – Cody Chovancek promises to be must-see TV after securing a UFC contract.

Chovancek (9-0) took out Raphael Uchegbu (10-2) in the opening seconds of Round 3 in their bantamweight bout Tuesday at Dana White’s Contender Series 82 from the UFC Apex. The Canadian fighter would have loved to join his Niagara Top Team training partners on the UFC Fight Night 262 card Oct. 18 in Vancouver, but admits it’s too quick of a turnaround.

“It’s a little soon,” Chovancek told MMA Junkie and other reporters on Tuesday. “Like, I got to talk to my coaches and talk to my camp and everything, but I would love to get on the next Canadian card for sure. I’ll be there regardless. My teammates, both Jasmine (Jasudavicius) and Mike (Malott), are fighting on that card. I don’t know if he’s been announced yet, but I hope they get Serhey Sidey on that card, too. That’s just another stacked card in Canada, so it’s great for Canadian MMA fans. There’s such a huge fanbase here so, it’s going to be a great card.”

Chovancek would still like to compete on home soil at some point and vows to continue delivering big finishes.

“I’d love to fight on a Canadian card, the next one,” Chovancek added. “Just more highlight-reel knockouts, more highlight-reel submissions, just action-packed fights. That’s what I’m trying to do every time, and I see some crazy finishes coming in the future, and just climbing those ranks.”
