UFC cuts four fighters in latest roster purge, including main event Middleweight

by

Per a first report from Sherdog’s Tom Feely and confirmed by MMAmania.com, four fighters have been released from the UFC roster. Those athletes no longer with the promotion are Andre Muniz, Justin Tafa, Irina Alekseeva, and Brogan Walker.

Of the four, Muniz (24-8) is the most accomplished fighter by a significant margin. From 2019-2022, Muniz won five straight UFC fights. Not only did he defeat Uriah Hall, but he broke the arm of BJJ legend Ronaldo Souza during that run! Since then, however, it’s all fallen apart. He lost his first and only main event opportunity to Brendan Allen via third-round submission to start 2023 and has lost four of his last five bouts overall.

Most recently, he lost to Edmen Shahbazyan via first-round knockout at UFC 320. He departs the promotion with a 6-4 record overall.

Irina Alekseeva (5-4 overall, 1-3 UFC) leaves riding a three-fight losing streak. “Russian Ronda” fought just a few days ago at UFC Rio, but she was unfortunately trampled by jiu-jitsu ace Bia Mesquita. Finally, Brogan Walker (7-5 overall, 0-3 UFC) also exits the promotion after a three-fight losing streak. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) finalist most recently lost a one-sided decision to Veronica Hardy at UFC 320.
