The UFC light heavyweight division may have a new title challenger in the on-bat circle.
Carlos Ulberg crushed Dominick Reyes in the UFC Fight Night 260 main event Saturday and did so within one round. The TKO stoppage came with 33 seconds left in the first round at RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia.
A short 1-2 combination, and particularly the 2, which was a right hand, floored Reyes after a feeling-out process. Ulberg then shot downward with another pair of hard punches as the referee dove in.
After the fight, Ulberg indicated he may be the backup fighter for the UFC 320 title fight Oct. 4 between Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira. One way or another, he plans to be in attendance.
The victory Saturday extended Ulberg’s current streak to nine. Other key victories in the UFC include Volkan Oezdemir and Jan Blachowicz. Reyes, 35, has a three-fight winning streak snapped.
