UFC’s Nora Cornolle sees path to victory against champ Kayla Harrison

LAS VEGAS – Like every other competitor in the UFC women’s bantamweight division, Nora Cornolle is hunting current champ Kayla Harrison.

Cornolle (9-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) is currently ranked No. 12 by the promotion, and hopes to crack into the top 10 with a win over Karol Rosa at UFC on ESPN 71 at the UFC Apex on Saturday. Rosa (18-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC) currently holds that tenth spot.

Every woman in the division is chasing Harrison (19-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC), who won the division’s title in June by submitting Julianna Peña at UFC 316.

“She’s going to be the woman to kill now, like every girl in the top 10, you know?” Cornolle told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s media day. “I think everybody wants to call her out. I’m not in a hurry. I want the belt, of course, like every female in this category, but step by step.”

Cornolle, 35, is just entering her fifth fight in the UFC. Harrison claimed the division’s title in her third bout, so Cornolle knows the road to the title can be a very quick one. While she says she’s not in a hurry to get to a title shot, she has been studying Harrison’s game, and sees a path to victory.

“She’s not complete,” Cornolle said. “She has stuff where she’s really good at, and maybe difficult to beat in her own game I will say, but there is a way to beat her.”

First things first, Cornolle has to get past Rosa, who has produced mixed results through her UFC run, but has never lost back-to-back fights – and she’s entering this fight after a decision loss to Ailin Perez in January.
