The University of Alabama has released a statement on Charles Bediako‘s continued fight to restore his eligibility and compete with Crimson Tide basketball.

“We understand that Charles is pursuing an appeal in his case against the NCAA, and ultimately, he must do what he considers to be in his best interest. The University continues to support Charles as he works toward completing his degree,” the statement read.

Court documents revealed that Bediako was appealing the court’s decision and taking his lawsuit against the NCAA to the Alabama Supreme Court. The three-year G League veteran is also asking for injunctive relief to continue competing with Alabama as his appeal is reviewed.

Bediako first filed a complaint with the Tuscaloosa Circuit Court on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The next day, he was granted a temporary restraining order that allowed him to play with the Crimson Tide against Tennessee, Missouri, Florida, Texas A&M and Auburn.

Even after Bediako was denied an injunction on Monday, Feb. 9, he remained active with the program, participating in practices and playing with the scout team. Alabama coach Nate Oats has maintained that Bediako is still a student-athlete and has treated him as much.

The Crimson Tide plays again on Wednesday, Feb. 25, when Mississippi State comes to Coleman Coliseum.
