Updated SEC standings after Texas A&M’s 75-71 road win over Oklahoma

by

Texas A&M (19-8, 9-5 SEC) is 2-0 this week after defeating Oklahoma 75-71 on the road just three days after Wednesday’s comeback 80-77 win over Ole Miss. Led by a balanced scoring effort, the Aggies shot 44% from the field and an efficient 40% from beyond the arc, hitting ten threes on the night.

Ending the four-game losing streak, first-year head coach Bucky McMillan was clear with his team after Wednesday’s victory that defeating the Rebels was a “must-win” situation, and even though none of us labeled Saturday’s road test as a must-win situation, Texas A&M can’t afford to drop anymore games against the bottom half of the SEC, and need at least 11 wins to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Led by senior forward Rashaun Agee’s 18 points and seven rebounds, the Chicago native’s two made free throws gave the Aggies a 74-71 lead with just over 20 seconds left, and after Oklahoma’s missed three-point attempt, the Aggies’ 11 made free thows looked massive to pull off the road win, despite not scoring for over three minutes in the second half.

With the win, Texas A&M is off ESPN’s Bracketologist Joe Lunardi’s bubble line and back in the field before facing Arkansas on the road on Wednesday night. Around the rest of the SEC, Florida won its seventh consecutive game, while Vanderbilt has lost two in a row after falling to Tennessee at home. Auburn ended its miserable five-game losing streak at home, defeating Kentucky in stunning fashion.
