Uros Medic says Dana White, Donald Trump solved his immigration issue

by

Uros Medic’s latest win not only produced a highlight-reel knockout, but apparently, also solved his immigration issues.

In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 267 at Toyota Center in Houston, Medic (13-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) lit up Geoff Neal with a vicious combo, ending with a left hand to the temple. That shot put Neal (16-8 MMA, 8-6 UFC) down and out immediately for a walk-off KO in the first round – a moment that will likely be talked about in Knockout of the Year conversations in December.

During his post-fight interview, Medic made a plea to the United States president to help with his visa issues. The Serbia-born welterweight said he’s been unable to travel home, which has strained his personal life, but he got a surprise backstage when UFC CEO Dana White pulled him aside after his third-straight first-round finish.

“I’m back in his office, and Dana’s got president Donald Trump on speaker phone,” Medic said during a post-fight news conference (h/t Cageside Press). “I’m just standing there, and I cannot believe what’s happening. I’m talking to the president, and he said, ‘You’re good to go wherever you please. You can travel, just give Dana documentation, the information that you need.’ I’m just blown away. I mean, I love Mr. President, and his wife is from Slovenia, First Lady Melania.

“… It was just amazing for me to be able to tell him about the situation and how big of a fan I am of him, and obviously, his wife, who is from where I’m from – or I’m considering where I’m from, even though it’s a different country. It’s like a five-hour drive. That’s nothing for America. Like, you can’t even get out of Texas in five hours. So yeah, I’m still processing all of it.”

Medic’s post-fight interview in the cage was an effective use of his time with Michael Bisping. Not only did he relay his immigration issues that have now apparently been resolved thanks to connections White has with Trump, but he sent a powerful message to the rest of the division by making a play on the infamous message communicated during the Apollo 13 emergency.

“Houston, we have a problem, and it’s me!” Medic said. “I am the problem! This division is in trouble! They need some of this. They need it, and I’m here to deliver. I’m going to knock everybody out and bulldozer through this division. Mark my word.”
