Uruguay will play new and established rivals as part of the 2025 November Internationals. Hot on the heels of successfully qualifying for Rugby World Cup 2027, Los Teros have booked three matches to end the year. Uruguayan Rugby expert, Ignacio Chans confirms that Uruguay will face Portugal, Romania and the All Blacks XV.
NOVEMBER RIVALS |
Uruguay’s end-of-year tour will begin in Lisbon, Portugal. Uruguay will play away against Portugal on Saturday, November 08. The fixture will be the 11th between the countries but the first in more than a decade. Uruguay has won 7 of the previous 10 test matches against Os Lobos.
Game two of Uruguay’s 2025 November Internationals will be an uncapped match. Los Teros take-on the All Blacks XV in Montpellier, France.
Uruguay’s tour will conclude in Bucharest, Romania on November 22. Los Teros will take-on their increasingly familiar rivals at their home rugby stadium. The match will be the second of the year between the teams after Uruguay re-wrote the books with a record win over the Eastern Europeans.
While Romania will be looking to get a win back, the fixture ultimately is the latest in what has become Uruguay’s most common rugby test match. The teams played each other in three test matches in 2002, one in 2024 and two in 2025. Uruguay had two matches against Argentina during this period and three vs Chile.

Uruguay will be looking to end 2025 with wins over both Portugal and Romania. Doing so will see the South Americans giving themselves the best possible opportunity of a friendlier draw for Rugby World Cup 2027. The draw will be made in December based on the world rankings at the completion of the November Internationals.
Uruguay qualified for Australia 2027 by defeating Chile on aggregate in a two-match-series. It was not smooth sailing; however, as Uruguay’s win on the road in Santiago was not backed-up at home. Indeed, Chile’s 21-18 victory brought to an end a losing streak in matches against Uruguay in Montevideo dating back to 1971.
Defeat for Uruguay saw a drop in the Rugby World Rankings from 16th to 17th, swapping places with Tonga. Chile remain in 20th but have edged closer to the USA in 19th and have stretched their advantage over Romania in 21st.
World Rugby will use the rankings as seedings by dividing the 24 teams into four pots: (a) 1-6, (b) 7-12, (c) 13-18 and (d) 19 and lower. In other words, there is a substantial advantage to be gained by being ranked 18th compared to 19th. It can be summarized as potentially facing Hong Kong or Zimbabwe rather than Japan or Georgia.
