The November International between Uruguay and the All Blacks XV has moved to a different French City. Originally scheduled to be played in Montpellier on November 16, the match will instead take-place in Béziers. It sees a venue change from Septeo Stadium in the Top 14 to Raoul-Barrière Stadium in the Pro D2.
A disagreement between Montpellier Top 14 club president, billionaire Mohed Altrad and Montpellier public workers led to the venue change. The conditions of the field were deemed unacceptable. With it the stadium misses out on hosting the All Blacks XV in consecutive years. The New Zealand next-of-XV played Georgia in Montpellier last November.
Uruguay vs All Blacks XV will be Uruguay’s second game of the November Internationals. Los Teros face Portugal and Romania either side of taking-on the New Zealanders. The All Blacks XV will face the Barbarians and England A while on tour.
The Raoul-Barrière Stadium hosted matches during Rugby World Cups 1991 and 1999. Among the matches at the stadium was France vs Canada in 1999. Uruguay debuted at Rugby World Cup 1999 and played exclusively in Scotland.
The change of venue marks a unique opportunity for both Béziers and Uruguay. The city’s Pro D2 club (Association sportive de Béziers Hérault) is home to Uruguayan fullback Baltazar Amaya.
