The USC Trojans face the Iowa Hawkeyes, trying to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive. USC’s playoff odds aren’t good at this point, but USC can’t clinch a berth against the Hawkeyes. This game is all about staying alive for another week and making next week’s trip to Oregon matter. USC desperately wants to fly to Eugene and make sure it faces the Ducks for high stakes.
It would be a huge letdown for USC football and Lincoln Riley to travel to the Pacific Northwest with all their dreams dashed and nothing to play for other than pride. Win or lose in Oregon, USC wants that game to be a main event. It would at least mark a positive progression from last season, when the Trojans were playing out the string at this time. USC playing for something big in late November — even if it doesn’t achieve what it ultimately wants — would be a forward-moving development for the football program going into 2026.
