USC is still not viewed as a top 25 team by most voters, pundits

by

The season finally officially kicked off last week. The disrespect shown to the USC Trojans has not been washed away even after an impressive Week 1 victory. The Trojans showed they are a force to be reckoned with in the Big Ten, but this week the Trojans will have to show even more to crack the AP Top 25 Poll and the USA TODAY US LBM Coaches Poll.

USC writer Chris Trevino broke down exactly where the Trojans landed in both rankings in his two latest tweets on X:

#USC did not crack the updated USA TODAY Coaches Top 25 Poll. It actually received less votes compared to the preseason poll and moved from No. 29 to No. 31.”

#USC also did not crack the AP Top 25 poll but moved up to No. 29 from No. 30″

I can understand being less than optimistic about the USC Trojans before Week 1. There has now been game tape and the Trojans looked the part of a top 15 team college football, not just a team deserving of a top 25 ranking. There are not 28 teams better than the USC Trojans in college football.

The Trojans were the only team in college football to put up 73 points last week, across the FBS. This is a team full of playmakers on offense and a quarterback that knows how to get the ball to those playmakers. The Trojans have a more experienced and talented defense. We are talking about a team that can end up in the College Football Playoff not making the top 25 of the rankings. Maybe there is just some agenda being forced upon us.

The Trojans will have to put up 80 points this week against Georgia Southern this week. Maybe then USC will be the 28th-best team in the country.
