Then, Suryakumar Yadav introduced Varun Chakravarthy with the hope for an opening breakthrough, and the mystery spinner repaid the faith of his skipper.
On the very first ball of the over, Varun Chakravarthy managed to rattle the stumps of Reeza Hendricks for 8 runs off 10 balls.
Chakravarthy started off the over with a googly on length, and Reeza Hendricks stayed back in the crease to pull it away. However, he was beaten as the ball skidded and rattled the stumps.

Each player in our lineup has a different tempo – Donovan Ferreira
Speaking ahead of the commencement of the second T20I, the Proteas batter Donovan Ferreira stated that they would forget about the loss in the first game and move on. He also spoke about the types of batters present in Team South Africa. He elaborated:
“Just have to put it under the carpet, it’s a 5-match series so 4 more games to go. Sometimes when that happens you just put it under the carpet, try and focus on the next game, try and stick to your guns. They did bowl well. We had one or 2 inside edges, one or 2 nicks so that happens in T20 cricket. Important for us to stick our guns and come out with a positive mindset again.
“[On planning] There’s a bit of a seam and a bit of bounce in this wicket. It’s important to stick to our basics. Look to take on the seamers. If there’s not going to be a lot of turn, to be nice and positive against the spinners because that is their threat. For us, sticking to that and really taking the positive option when it is presents itself.
“[Balancing aggression and responsibility] Each player in our lineup has a different tempo. Some guys like to take more aggressive option and some guys like to take it a bit deeper. It’s important to stick to your idea in T20s as a batter and that’s how the team has been put together. There’s a bit of guys that can bat a bit longer that and then there are guys who like taking the positive risks. The guys that do that need to be positive and other guys need to assess the conditions and set the game up for them.”
