Vidal Bruján traded to Mets from Twins

The Mets have acquired switch-hitting utility infielder from the Twins in exchange for cash considerations.

Bruján, who turns 28 on Feb. 9, was designated for assignment by the Twins after they acquired utility infielder Tristan Gray from the Red Sox on Wednesday.

A top prospect in the Rays’ farm system before making his Major League debut for Tampa Bay in 2021, Bruján has not seen his Minor League success translate at the big league level. In five MLB seasons spent with five teams — three of them in 2025 (Cubs, Orioles and Braves), he has a career .199/.267/.276 slash line. He stole 147 bases between Class A and Triple-A from 2018-21, but he is 16-for-30 on steal attempts in the Majors.

The Mets have been busy in recent days, signing coveted free-agent infielder Bo Bichette and making trades for center fielder Luis Robert Jr. from the White Sox and Freddy Peralta from the Brewers. In the deal for Robert, New York sent infielder Luisangel Acuña to Chicago. Adding Brujan addresses, to some extent, the infield depth vacancy left by Acuña.
