Virginia Tech Cruises in Dual Meet Against George Washington

The Virginia Tech Hokies traveled to take on George Washington in a Saturday dual meet and had no trouble leaving with a pair of wins. The men’s team came out on top 212-87 while the women’s score was nearly identical, 211-89.

The Hokie men kicked things off with Brendan WhitfieldEli MartinLandon Gentry and Will Hayon combining for a time of 1:27.46 in the 200 medley relay. Whitfield paced the 200 freestyle in 1:36.70, with Andy Roose coming in just ahead of teammates Levente Balogh and Connor Johnson in the 100 backstroke, clocking 49.18. Martin was victorious in the 100 breaststroke (55.03), and the 200 butterfly went to Gentry in 1:47.43. Tanish George Mathew was first in the 50 free (20.64).

Whitfield captured his second win of the day with a strong time of 42.87 in the 100 free, and the 200 back belonged to Roose in 1:45.89. Martin won again in the 200 breast (2:00.28), followed by Jakub Poliacik taking first in the 500 free (4:28.39). Gentry completed the fly double with a 100-yard time of 47.86. Rocky Ramsland won 1-meter diving (355.28), and teammate Nathan Cox was first on 3-meter (318.75). The 200 IM went to Martin in another tight race with a time of 1:49.65 before the meet concluded with Whitfield, George Mathew, Poliacik and Diego Aranda taking the 400 free relay (2:57.90).

George Washington’s Daniel Choi was the winner of the 1000 free (9:19.03), the team’s only event winner on the men’s side.

Virginia Tech’s Carmen Weiler-SastreEmily Santos, Athena Meneses Kovacs and Emily Claesson captured first in the women’s 200 medley relay in 1:40.76. Chaira Klein picked up the Hokies’ first individual win in the 200 free(1:49.84), and Weiler-Sastre topped the 100 back (53.60). Nichelly Brano Lysy was the winner of the 100 breast (1:02.23) before Julia Murphy narrowly won the 200 fly in 2:02.74 and Claesson came home first in the 50 free (23.22).

Claesson came back following the break to top the 100 free (50.06), and the 200 back went to Weiler-Sastre in 1:55.65. Brano Lysy won again in the 200 breast (2:15.79), followed by Meneses Kovacs taking first in the 100 fly (54.86). Peyton Guziec surpassed the field in 1-meter diving (272.70) before the individual slate concluded with a third win for Brano Lysy in the 200 IM (2:02.75). Weiler-Sastre, Claesson, Klein and Meneses-Kovacs put up a time of 3:22.45 for the win in the 400 free relay.

GW got on the board thanks to Ava Topolewski in the 1000 free (9:53.60), and she won again in the 500 free (4:50.42). Olivia Paquette was first in 3-meter diving (307.65)
