Vitor Belfort withdraws from Wanderlei Silva fight after serious injury

by

Former UFC middleweights Vitor Belfort (26-14, 1 NC) and Wanderlei Silva (35-14-1, 1 NC) were expected to rematch inside a boxing ring atop the upcoming Spaten Fight Night 2 event, scheduled for Sat., Sept. 27, 2025 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

That fight is now canceled.

“During my preparation these last two weeks, I suffered a very serious injury that needs to be treated with a lot of care,” Belfort told his Instagram followers. “It’s not easy for me to come here and announce this after so much expectation. But right now, the most important thing is to take care of my health.”

“I want to thank the doctors from United States and Brazil who are following me on this and I will come back stronger, because the story is not over yet,” Belfort continued. “I know this rematch will have to wait a little longer but when it happens, I will be ready.”

No word yet on whether or not Silva will remain on the card.

Belfort defeated Silva under MMA rules as part of the UFC 17.5 “Ultimate Brazil” card back in late 1998, before a lot of current UFC fans were even born. “The Phenom” is one year younger than “The Axe Murderer” at 48. Neither fighter has competed in cage fighting since their respective losses in 2018.
