Signing day in college football can have more drama than Uncle Eddie visiting the Griswalds during the Christmas season, and that definitely held true this week. To be fair, most of the Ohio State football 2026 recruiting class officially signed without too much drama, but the biggest exception to that was 5-star receiver Chris Henry Jr., who has been committed to Ohio State since July of 2023.
Despite heavy pushes from the likes of Oregon and USC, Henry reaffirmed his commitment many times, but the news of Brian Hartline’s departure from the Buckeyes to USF was the one thing that gave him pause. As a result, Henry did not sign his national letter of intent on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period, and instead took a pause to reevaluate his options.

In the end, though, Henry stuck with Ohio State and the faith he has in head coach Ryan Day, other relationships, and the culture of the program. Henry appeared on the Pat McAfee show to announce his decision to stick with OSU, but before that, he took time to call Day and let him know so that he didn’t find out through the live announcement on television.
