West Indies cricket team delivered a masterclass performance at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad, on August 12, 2025, in the third and final ODI against Pakistan. This historic victory marked the end of a 34-year wait, as the Caribbean side won their first ODI series against Pakistan since 1991. The comprehensive 202-run triumph not only secured a 2-1 series victory but also showcased the devastating bowling prowess of young pacer Jayden Seales.

Jayden Seales’ Jaffa sends Mohammad Rizwan packing for a golden duck

Mohammed Rizwan‘s dismissal in the third over became the defining moment of Pakistan’s catastrophic collapse. Facing a charging Jayden Seales, the Pakistan captain encountered what many have dubbed “the worst leave of the year”. The delivery, described as an absolute jaffa, landed around the fifth stump and seamed back sharply. Rizwan, likely judging the ball on length, shouldered arms expecting it to pass harmlessly by. Instead, the ball crashed into the top of the off-stump, dislodging both bails and leaving the wicket-keeper-batsman frozen at the crease in disbelief.

The golden duck dismissal came on Rizwan’s first ball, adding insult to injury as Pakistan found themselves reeling at 8-3 within the powerplay. This moment epitomized Pakistan’s complete capitulation, as they were eventually bowled out for a paltry 92 runs in just 29.2 overs. Seales’ devastating spell of 6-18 from 7.2 overs not only claimed Rizwan but also dismantled the entire Pakistani batting lineup, making him the first West Indies bowler to take six wickets against Pakistan in an ODI match.

The significance of this victory extends far beyond a single match, as it represents the culmination of West Indies’ first bilateral ODI series win against Pakistan in over three decades. The last time the Caribbean team had defeated Pakistan in an ODI series was during their 1991 tour of Pakistan, where they won 2-0 under Richie Richardson‘s captaincy. That series featured matches in Karachi, Lahore, and Faisalabad, with the final match being won by 17 runs.

Pakistan had remained unbeaten in 11 bilateral ODI series against West Indies since that 1991 defeat, winning their previous ten series encounters. The drought had become a psychological burden for West Indies cricket, making this series victory particularly sweet for captain Shai Hope and his team. Hope’s unbeaten 120 in the decisive third ODI, combined with Justin Greaves‘ explosive 43 not out from just 24 balls, propelled West Indies to a formidable 294-6. Their 110-run seventh-wicket partnership in approximately eight overs provided the crucial late momentum that proved insurmountable for Pakistan’s brittle batting lineup.

The comprehensive nature of this victory – a 202-run margin – ranks as only the fourth instance of West Indies winning by such a massive margin in ODI cricket. For Pakistan, being bowled out for 92 represented their tenth sub-100 total in ODI history, with four of those humiliating collapses coming against the West Indies. This series triumph not only ended West Indies’ longest bilateral ODI series drought against Pakistan but also provided hope for the resurgence of Caribbean cricket after years of struggle.
