This could be a make-or-break season for Texas A&M women’s basketball Coach Joni Taylor, but she isn’t going to phone it in. She hit the portal hard and focused on preparing her team to compete in the toughest division in women’s college basketball. On Wednesday, at SEC Media Days, Coach Taylor took the podium and laid out her vision for the 2026 Aggie basketball team.
She’s had a tough few years in Maroon & White, with an overall record of 38–52 and 11–37 in conference play. After an encouraging second season, the team struggled with health and consistency in 2025, winning only three SEC games. With a program that boasts a rich history of postseason success, things need to change.
“Our team motto is P.T.I. It’s program, team, and individual in that order. In every decision you make, the program comes first. It’s important with 12 new players, that whoever steps into this program understands it will always will be most important.”
So far, she is pleased with what she is seeing, and she has a deep squad that’s coming into the season healthy and ready to compete.
“It’s a great thing to see to have 15 healthy players. It allowed us to get things done at a faster pace. Now we’re able to have a flow that we need. I’m really proud of our ladies who are here putting in work.”
“We’ve got players who play with great pace and toughness. So far I’m liking what I’m seeing.”
