Uran Satybaldiev may have snatched up one of the Performance of the Night bonuses in the first fight of UFC Shangahi.
Satybaldiev faced Diyar Nurgozhay in the opening preliminary bout of Saturday’s Fight Night card at Shanghai Indoor Stadium. The excited crowd was treated to just the sixth Ezekiel choke in UFC history from Satybaldiev, who got the finish in the first round.

Satybaldiev nearly earned a submission via kimura earlier in the round but Nurgozhay did a nice job escaping the difficult position. The 31-year-old Satybaldiev picked up his first UFC win after losing his debut against Martin Buday, a fight he took on less than a week’s notice, up a weight class, where he was outweighed by over 40 pounds. Despite the huge size discrepancy, Satybaldiev was able to keep the fight competitive, although he lost for the first time in his career. Now back in his natural weight class, “Gorilla” sent a message to the rest of the diviison.
Nurgozhay, a Contender Series contract winner, is now 0-2 in the UFC.
