Well, that was fun — at least if you are an Ohio State football fan, player, or coach. The Buckeyes were not very hospitable to their visitors in the ‘Shoe on Saturday night, dominating the Minnesota Golden Gophers in every phase of the game en route to a 42-3 bludgeoning on the banks of the Olentangy.
The Golden Gophers went on a scoring drive that resulted in a field goal on their first possession, but from there, their offense was stymied and bruised by an OSU defense that continues to play at a level I’m not sure we’ve ever seen. Add that to an offense that’s becoming more explosive by the week, and it was a long day for the visitors from the Twin Cities.

Golden Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck met with the media in Columbus after the loss and gave a lot of credit to Ohio State. In fact, he spent most of his time detailing how good the players, depth, and coaching are, and how his team just got beat by an “exceptional football team.” Fleck even went on to say that the OSU defense might be the best he’s seen in his 13 years on the job.
It went deeper than that, though, and if you haven’t had a chance to take in what Fleck said about Ohio State after the game, we’ve got his entire interview and comments from three of the Minnesota players, all thanks to the Minnesota Gophers YouTube channel.
Ohio State improved its record to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten, and will now have a week to prepare to go back on the road and take on a ranked Illinois team Saturday. We’ll continue to reflect on this game, but also turn the page to that one over the next few days.
