Aggies in the NFL
The Aaron Glenn era has arrived in New York, with the former Texas A&M All-American winning his first exhibition game as head coach of the Jets. New York battered Green Bay 30-10 Saturday night in a game that saw both teams either sit their starters or play them for only short periods. One of those short-timers was defensive end Micheal Clemons, who had a tackle for the Jets. Wideout Josh Reynolds of the Jets and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper of the Packers didn’t play.
The Cleveland-Carolina matchup had plenty of Aggies involved, even if superstar Myles Garrett had the night off for the Browns. Recent waiver pickup Trayveon Williams got plenty of work for Cleveland, carrying 5 times for 26 yards, catching 2 passes for 17 yards and returning one kick 13 yards. He even made a tackle.
For the Panthers, a trio of Aggies made their mark. Rookie Nic Scourton had a pair of tackles, both for loss, including a sack. Safety Demani Richardson had 3 tackles, including a sack and new free agent acquisition Bobby Brown III had 3 tackles, including a tackle for loss.
Linebacker Buddy Johnson had a pair of tackles and a pass defensed as Dallas lost to the L.A. Rams 31-21. Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson was held out of the game.
Former Texas A&M defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal, who is being mentioned as a potential trade candidate, had a quarterback hit in Pittsburgh’s 31-25 win over Jacksonville. For the Jaguars, nickel Antonio Johnson — who was teammates with Leal on the 2020 Orange Bowl champion team — had 4 tackles, including a tackle for loss.
Two prominent Aggies were held out of Baltimore’s 24-16 win over Indianapolis. Defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike did not play for the Ravens, while corner Jaylon Jones sat out for the Colts. Linebacker Solomon DeShields, who spent 2024 at Texas A&M, had a tackle for Indianapolis.
Three Aggies got on the field for Miami’s 24-24 tie with the Bears, but Chicago wideout Jahdae Walker stole the show. Walker, an undrafted free agent, made a strong case for himself Sunday with three catches for 41 yards and a touchdown, followed by his trademark dance.
For Miami, running back De’Von Achane carried the ball 3 times for 22 yards and linebacker Tyrel Dodson had a tackle in limited work.
The Philadelphia-Cincinnati game had a fair share of Aggies in it, with four cracking the stat sheet in the Eagles’ 34-27 win. The most attention went to defensive end Shemar Stewart, making his first appearance in a Bengals uniform after being the team’s first round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and then holding out. Stewart had 1 tackle, but it was a tackle for loss and he applied heavy pressure during his limited work. Fellow Texas A&M football player and current Bengal McKinnley Jackson had 4 tackles, including 3 for loss.
On the Philadelphia side of the ledger, wide receiver Ainias Smith had a big game. He caught 2 passes for 11 yards, but one was a 6-yard touchdown. He also returned a kick for 20 yards and added dazzling 46-yard punt return where he juked several Bengals before finally being forced out of bounds deep in Cincinnati territory. Punter Braden Mann punted 4 times for an average of 47.3 yards per kick — and even kicked an extra point.
