What are the current Heisman odds for Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love?

by

Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back Jeremiyah Love is in contention for the Heisman Trophy.

He has a tough road ahead, though. He has to get more votes than Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin, Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia and perhaps Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed.

Love also has to contend with the fact that his numbers weren’t great in the two losses Notre Dame has — at Miami (FL) and home against Texas A&M — even if he could blame play-calling for that. He also had pedestrian numbers in his final game of the regular season at Stanford. That’s in part because he was knocked out early with an injury, and then Notre Dame put the game out of reach shortly after Love returned, meaning Love was headed to the bench to rest. Love did set a regular-season TD record for Notre Dame.

So it makes sense that the odds for Love to win the Heisman Trophy are a tad high — he’s +1400 according to DraftKings. Mendoza and Sayin are the favorites, with Pavia in between.

Notre Dame hasn’t had a Heisman Trophy winner since wide receiver Tim Brown in 1987, and it seems like a bit of a long shot this year.
