Wow. There’s no other word to describe Saturday’s thrilling ending to UNC-Ohio State basketball. The Buckeyes led by one in the final seconds, only for North Carolina to respond with more clutch antics.

Seth Trimble lost the basketball driving inside, but lucky for him, Henri Veesaar was right there. Veesaar dunked home the loose basketball, capping off the Tar Heels’ 71-70 win, which proved their fifth straight.

UNC (11-1) celebrated its big win, but quickly has to re-focus energy into Monday night. North Carolina will host in-state opponent East Carolina at 8 p.m., as both teams wrap up their non-conference slates.

Despite the Tar Heels and Pirates (5-7) located under two hours apart, this will be their fifth-ever matchup against each other. ECU is a historically bad program, last making the NCAA Tournament in 1993, but secured its first winning record since 2012-13 a year ago.

This game will be more than just that for UNC assistant coach Jeff Lebo, who led the Pirates from 2010-2017, before resigning to coach the G League’s Greensboro Swarm.

North Carolina should beat ECU easy, but as always, underestimating your opponent can prove costly. The Tar Heels struggled for one half with USC Upstate and failed to close out Navy, but won both those games by 10+ points.
