Diego Pavia, Vanderbilt football‘s Heisman Trophy-contending quarterback, visited Las Vegas with some of his offensive lineman to attend UFC 323 on Dec. 6.
He also was there to lobby some more for the Commodores‘ inclusion in the College Football Playoff.

When asked by a man on the street how he was feeling, Pavia said he was “ready to see some good fights,” before turning around and announcing the presence of some teammates.
“Got the hogs with us, the crew,” Pavia said. “Now just put us in the playoff.”
Vanderbilt finished 10-2 and had its best season in program history, due in large part to Pavia, who likely will go to New York as a Heisman finalist.

The Commodores’ chances of making the 12-team College Football Playoff field, which will be announced today, are slim to none.

Still, that hasn’t stopped Pavia or his coach, Clark Lea, from campaigning for the Commodores. Pavia even made a plea to President Trump to expand the Playoff, while Lea offered to play a 13th game to prove to committee the Commodores belong.

“We’re going to come up with an objective system that eliminates the human element,” he said. “I mean, if we’re using polls, somehow, you know, Oklahoma beats UT by six and they go up seven spots in the AP poll. We beat UT by 21 points and we’re moved down one spot.

“Explain that to me, because I have a hard time understanding that. It’s got to become a tighter process.”
