What Fred Hoiberg said about Michigan State, Tom Izzo after win

They’re calling it the biggest win in Nebraska basketball history. While that might seem hyperbolic or a little melodramatic, for a program that has failed to ever win a single NCAA Tournament game, a January win over a top ten opponent with the pedigree of Michigan State clearly means a lot to the Nebraska basketball program, fans, and their head coach. It’s also a major sign of respect for MSU and Tom Izzo that a win over them means so much to the Cornhusker program.

After the game, we saw that Tom Izzo was very congratulatory of his friend Fred Hoiberg, whose son he once coached at Michigan State. Hoiberg was also incredibly gracious and gushed about his friendship and appreciation for Izzo. Below, you can see what Hoiberg had to say about Michigan State and Tom Izzo after the big win.

‘Listen we got outrebounded by 14… I thought we did a hell of a job in that first half where you really needed to go out and set the tone… This is the best defensive rebounding team in the country and we were dead if we had to chase balls down.’

‘Listen they made some unbelievable plays where I thought we had layups and they came out of nowhere but that’s what they do… We haven’t seen that kind of length in the paint… They just came out of nowhere on some of those plays.’
