Where Notre Dame football landed in latest US LBM Coaches Poll after blowout win

SOUTH BEND —Notre Dame football, despite a 37-15 dismantling of Pittsburgh, stayed put Sunday in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll.

The Irish, 8-2 after their eighth straight win, remained at No. 9 in the coaches’ Top 25. For the first time this season, Notre Dame is no longer the highest-ranked two-loss team ahead of a two-game sprint to the regular-season finish line.

Oklahoma (8-2), which knocked off SEC foe Alabama on the road, jumped ahead of the Irish to No. 8. Alabama, also 8-2, fell six spots to No. 10.

USC (8-2), which joins the Panthers (then No. 22) as the only ranked teams on Notre Dame’s list of victims, moved up two spots to No. 16 after a win over Iowa.

Texas A&M (10-0) survived an upset bid from unranked South Carolina with a stirring rally from a 27-point halftime deficit. The Aggies held steady at No. 3.

Miami (8-2) moved up one spot to No. 15. The Hurricanes handed the Irish a season-opening loss, 27-24, and drilled N.C. State (41-7) over the weekend by a slightly wider margin than Notre Dame did (36-7).

The Associated Press media poll slotted Notre Dame at No. 9 as well, wedged between Oklahoma and Alabama.

The third weekly ranking of the College Football Playoff selection committee is due Tuesday evening with Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek taking over as chairman after Baylor AD Mack Rhoades stepped aside.

Utah AD Mark Harlan replaced Rhoades as the 12th member of this year’s committee, which was already down one member with Randall McDaniel’s one-year sabbatical.

Notre Dame ranked ninth in last week’s CFP reveal and projected to face Oregon on the road in a first-round playoff game.
