Why Kim Caldwell visited Lady Vols signee Oliviyah Edwards on her birthday

Kim Caldwell hasn’t typically visited recruits on her birthday.

But that’s exactly what the Lady Vols basketball coach did on Nov. 24 as she flew Florida to visit five-star signee Oliviyah Edwards due to a change in travel plans.

“It was a situation where I was supposed to go this morning and the schedule changed,” Caldwell said on Nov. 25. “So it made sense to go last night and anytime you can go to Florida and watch some basketball in the evening, there’s worse ways to spend a birthday.”

Caldwell, 37, and the Lady Vols signed Edwards and four-star wing Gabby Minus as class of 2026 recruits on Nov. 18.

Edwards is the No. 5 prospect in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-3 prospect has been one of the most sought-after players in the country. The Tacoma, Washington native chose the Lady Vols over South Carolina, USC, LSU, Florida and Washington.

Edwards committed on Oct. 13 while on her official visit to UT.

Minus, a 6-1 prospect out of Dacula, Georgia, is ranked No. 45 and has been recovering from a lower leg injury suffered in December 2024.

The No. 11 Lady Vols (5-1) play at No. 3 UCLA (6-0) on Nov. 30 (4:30 p.m. ET, FS1) and at Stanford (7-0) on Dec. 3 in its next two games.
