Why South Carolina women’s basketball is down to nine players vs Louisville

by

COLUMBIA — South Carolina women’s basketball freshman Agot Makeer is in concussion protocol and won’t travel for the game against Louisville, a team spokesperson told media after practice Dec. 3.

This leaves Dawn Staley with just nine players again, a theme so far this season. The No. 3 Gamecocks (7-1) face the No. 21 Cardinals (7-2) for the 2025 ACC/SEC Challenge in Kentucky Dec. 4 (7 p.m. ET, ESPN).

Staley has had all 10 players for only three games this season and just got her full roster back after Maddy McDaniel’s suspension ended.

Makeer is often the first sub off the bench for Staley and has been a huge element to the offense so far. As a freshman the guard is averaging 5.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

Now Staley will have guard depth in just McDaniel and Ayla McDowell behind her three starters.
