Newcastle Red Bulls have agreed a deal to sign Exeter centre Will Rigg at the end of this season.

The 25-year-old has signed a two-year deal at Kingston Park and becomes the third Chiefs player to make the move north in the summer.

Newcastle have already agreed terms with Exeter full-back Josh Hodge and forward Rusi Tuima as they continue their plans to strengthen their squad after the current Prem Rugby season.

Rigg has scored 10 tries in 29 games for Exeter since joining the club from Champ side Coventry almost two years ago.

He agreed a contract extension last year and has started four league and European Challenge Cup games this season.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining what I feel is one of the most exciting projects in rugby at the moment,” Rigg told the Newcastle website., external

“Speaking to the club and seeing the ambition and vision excited me greatly, and I can’t wait to get stuck into things up there.”

Rigg is the 11th new player to agree to join Newcastle in the summer, with others including Fiji winger Joji Nasova, Gloucester lock Cam Jordan and Sale Sharks scrum-half Raffi Quirke.

“Will has shown plenty of line-breaking ability during his time with Exeter, which will be a big asset for us as we look to build our game over the next few seasons,” Newcastle Red Bulls sporting general manager Neil McIlroy added.

“He’s a physical ball carrier with a good turn of pace, and I’m looking forward to seeing his continued progress within our environment.”
