The Dallas Wings’ visit to the Minnesota Lynx on Monday night was an emotional one for Paige Bueckers.

Though Bueckers has stood out individually for the Wings and is on pace to win WNBA Rookie of the Year at season’s end, Dallas continues to struggle as it tries to rebuild around its rising superstar at point guard. The Wings lost 96-71 to the Lynx on Monday, Dallas falling to a league-worst 9-32 despite Bueckers’ team-high 17 points.

But before the game, Bueckers had the chance to reunite with Lynx guard DiJonai Carrington, the veteran who took Bueckers under her wing when they played together in Dallas earlier this season.
After acquiring her in an off-season trade with the Connecticut Sun, the Wings dealt Carrington to the Lynx last month in order to recoup young players and draft assets to continue building for the future. But in her short time in Dallas, Carrington made quite an impact on Bueckers — as the Wings’ excitable young star proved pre- and post-game.

“We got extremely close, she kind of embraced my annoying side as a rookie,” Bueckers said after Monday’s game. “She just let me be me and annoy her, and we have a great relationship.”
