Wings’ Paige Bueckers reveals what she loves most about historic recent displays

Even in defeat, Paige Bueckers is a nightmare for her opponents.

Though the Dallas Wings suffered an 88-85 home defeat to the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday night, Bueckers only continued her sensational rookie campaign in the WNBA.

In 35 minutes against Atlanta, Bueckers scored a team-high 21 points and dished out seven assists against zero turnovers. She is only the second rookie in WNBA history to record 20 points, six assists, zero turnovers and two fouls or fewer in a game; the other one was…Bueckers herself, in Monday’s upset win over the New York Liberty.

Despite her nightly flirtations with league records, Bueckers’ Wings have not enjoyed many wins in 2025. Wednesday’s defeat at College Park Center saw Dallas fall to 8-20; only the Connecticut Sun have suffered more losses this season.

Bueckers knows that she has to continue improving and finding more ways to get the Wings over the line in close games. But one thing that she will always love about her game — something that she says “won’t ever change” — is her mid-range jumper.

Defenses already can’t stop Bueckers when she gets to her spot. On shots between 10 and 16 feet, Bueckers is shooting better than 55 percent, but that percentage tumbles to 43 percent on shots between three and 10 feet.

Even though she is the fastest player in 28 years to reach 400 career points and 100 career assists, Bueckers has an awareness of how much better she can become in the months and years ahead.
