Wisconsin basketball fell 84-83 to the Oklahoma Sooners in a preseason exhibition on Friday night.
Despite Oklahoma leading for more than 23:00 of game time, and by as many as nine points with 10:30 remaining in the second half, Wisconsin executed a late surge in the final minutes to tighten the score. That late push fell just one point short, with the Sooners holding onto an 84-83 victory.

John Blackwell led the way for the Badgers, tallying 20 points, five rebounds and three assists on seven-of-14 shooting. Next to him, San Diego State transfer Nick Boyd showed well in his first action with the program, tallying 19 points, six rebounds and three assists on six-of-17 shooting. Portland transfer forward Austin Rapp also added 17 points, including a notable three-of-seven clip from beyond the 3-point line.
Wisconsin struggled a bit defensively, allowing Oklahoma to score 84 points on more than 51% shooting. While the game doesn’t count toward the 2025-26 season, it could preview what to expect when the season officially tips off; the new-look Badgers appear strong on paper, though they may need some time to gel on both sides of the court.
Wisconsin is back in action at the Kohl Center on Wednesday, Oct. 29, for an exhibition matchup against UW-Platteville. Greg Gard’s team then begins its season officially with a home matchup against Campbell on Nov. 3.
