Wisconsin basketball star John Blackwell earns preseason All-Big Ten honors

by

Wisconsin basketball star guard John Blackwell is receiving much-deserved pre-season accolades from many outlets. Today, Blackwell was named to the Preseason All-Big Ten team, joining players including UCLA’s Donovan Dent, Northwestern’s Nick Martinelli, and Michigan’s Yaxel Lendeborg.

In 2024-25, Blackwell averaged 15.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game, falling just short of an All-Big Ten team last season. This was quite controversial among fans, who believed the then-sophomore guard was robbed. Regardless of whether that is justified or not, it’s looking like Blackwell will get more recognition and honors this season, as he will most likely be the Badgers‘ best player.

With John Tonje gone to the NBA and facilitating transfers Nick Boyd (SDSU) and Andrew Rohde (Virginia) projected to make a major impact, Blackwell is primed for a huge season offensively. He should operate less on-ball and as a passer and more as a true scorer. This should help him increase his three-point percentage closer to his freshman year numbers, as compared to last season’s clip.

Overall, the Wisconsin basketball team appears strong heading into the start of the 2025-2026 season. It seems due for yet another March Madness berth, with hopefully a slightly longer run than the past few seasons.
