Wisconsin basketball suffered the most lopsided loss of the Greg Gard era on Wednesday night, as it fell 90-60 to the No. 23 Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Nebraska owned nearly every meaningful statistical category, shooting 54% from the field to Wisconsin’s 34%, making 37% of its 3-point looks to Wisconsin’s 22%, out-rebounding the Badgers 38-32, recording 20 assists to Wisconsin’s 14 and, most notably, scoring 44 points in the paint to Wisconsin’s 24.

The loss is a startling result for a Wisconsin team that had built strong momentum with wins over Northwestern and Marquette. That positive form was a major boost after a previous 28-point blowout loss at No. 9 BYU. That result set the mark for the biggest loss of the Gard era, a standing it held until Wednesday.
The Badgers now have major improvements to make over the next three weeks as the calendar turns to January and the Big Ten gauntlet begins. Wednesday’s loss sent them down to No. 39 in KenPom, with the nation’s No. 37-ranked offense and No. 54-ranked defense. That second standing is the more notable, given the program’s identity under Gard.
Wisconsin returns to the court on Dec. 19 against Villanova. The neutral-site game at Fiserv Forum will provide an important look at whether the team can shake its two record losses and round into form before Big Ten play.
