Wisconsin football class of 2025 signee yet to join the program, won’t be with team

Wisconsin football class of 2025 signee Brayden Pavey has yet to enroll at Wisconsin and will not be with the team for the 2025 season, according to head coach Luke Fickell.

The Badger head coach said that the defensive lineman, who flipped his commitment from Wisconsin to Purdue in December, did not enroll due to ‘personal reasons.’

Prior to his collegiate decision, 247Sports listed Pavey as the No. 722 overall recruit in the class of 2026, the No. 83 defensive lineman and the No. 28 player from his home state of Ohio. The Taft High School product decommitted from the Boilermakers‘ program on Oct. 19 before signing with UW on Dec. 4.

Pavey initially elected to join Purdue in July 2024 over Wisconsin and Indiana. In addition to that list of final suitors, the budding defensive talent had garnered over 20 offers from programs across the nation.

Wisconsin did sign a pair of defensive linemen — Torin Pettaway and Xavier Ukponu — in the class of 2025. With Pavey’s absence, Wisconsin’s incoming class now includes 22 athletes. That group finished the 2025 cycle ranked No. 26 in the nation and No. 7 in the Big Ten.

The program’s defensive front projects to see transfers Corey Walker (DE) and Parker Peterson (NT), plus veteran Ben Barten (DT), take the leading snaps. Fickell also noted that the front group can go six players deep, including transfers Charles Perkins and Jay’Viar Suggs, as well as sophomore Dillan Johnson.

Pavey’s status with the Badgers is one to monitor as the 2025 season nears.
