Wisconsin starting QB out with knee injury as Iowa football date nears

by

As Iowa football (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten) enjoys a Week 6 bye ahead of its Oct. 11 rivalry game at Wisconsin (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten), the latest quarterback injury developments for the Badgers have created a potential advantage for the Hawkeyes.

According to CBS Sports’ national college football senior reporter, Matt Zenitz, Badgers quarterback Billy Edwards is not expected to play against No. 20 Michigan (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Michigan Stadium. The senior transfer quarterback, who joined Wisconsin after three years at Maryland, started the Badgers’ 27-10 loss against the Terrapins on Sept. 20 before leaving the game with knee discomfort.

Instead, the Badgers will rely on sophomore backup quarterback Danny O’Neil to lead the offense against Michigan. The book on O’Neil is that he is much more of a passing quarterback as compared to Edwards, who utilizes his mobility at a higher frequency.

As Iowa sits idle, the Hawkeyes can watch the Badgers play this weekend with the expectation of either playing a backup quarterback in O’Neil or Edwards in his first game back from knee discomfort.

Iowa’s Oct. 11 meeting against Wisconsin is set to kickoff at 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on FS1 from Camp Randall Stadium.
