Wisconsin vs. Maryland: Picks, odds, and predictions for Week 4

by

Fresh off a 38-14 loss at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Wisconsin Badgers are looking to bounce back against the Maryland Terrapins in Week 4, with kickoff set for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.

It was an ugly outcome for the Badgers, with the score seeming better than the final result as they were outclassed in all facets of the game. Offensively, Wisconsin was undisciplined, committing the types of errors that you just can’t have against Alabama.

Defensively, the Badgers had no answers for Alabama’s passing attack, as Ty Simpson threw for 382 yards and four touchdowns in a monster game.

Now, they’ll take on a Maryland team that has started 3-0, but hasn’t faced any tough competition just yet, making Saturday’s game their first big challenge.

Currently, FanDuel Sportsbook has the Badgers as 9.5-point favorites, with the over/under at 43.5 points. Let’s get into some fun predictions for the game.

Prop Predictions

It was another solid week on the prop predictions, as we went 1-1. Thinking that Alabama would have its way in the air, I took the overs for wideouts Germie Bernard and Isaiah Horton.

Bernard’s line was at 67.5 receiving yards, and he fell just short, going for four catches, 62 yards, and a touchdown, with 43 of those yards coming on one play. Horton crushed his line of 26.5 receiving yards, going for five catches and 48 yards for a score.

With a 1-1 week last week, let’s look to have a nice week here in Week 4.

Prop 1: Malik Washington U225.5 passing yards

True freshman quarterback Malik Washington has started the season hot for the Terrapins, going for 773 yards, six touchdowns, and an interception across three games. However, there are a variety of factors that make his under reasonable on Saturday.

First, the weather conditions. There is the possibility of rain during the game after a rainy night in Madison. Then, there’s also the way that the Terrapins look to attack offensively.

Washington likes the deep ball, specifically vertical routes to the boundaries, but it looks like Maryland tries to keep the offense relatively simple for the quarterback. I expect two-high shells from the Badgers to take away some of those explosive plays, making it harder for the Terrapins offense to be sustainable.

Washington probably gets at least one major explosive. But, I think the Badgers defense will force Maryland to run the ball, which will be a determining factor in this one.

Prop 2: Wisconsin U13.5 1st half total

The Badgers have started slow all season long. It could be a rainy day, putting more emphasis on the run game, and they just haven’t looked good enough up front to have more success there yet.

Billy Edwards could be back, which is a boost to the quick passing game, but Wisconsin’s successful drives have been more methodical as well, as they’ve struggled to connect on explosives.

I’ll take a shot at plus money at their first half total to be under 13.5, with the game being relatively close at halftime. (Maryland +5.5 at the half is intriguing as well).
