Wizards Optimistic Anthony Davis Will Suit Up This Season Despite Rumors

by

The Washington Wizards are maintaining optimism surrounding Anthony Davis’ debut with the franchise, even as outside reports suggest the All-Star big man could miss the remainder of the season.

Davis, who was acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks, has yet to play for Washington while continuing to recover from a finger injury that has sidelined him since early January.

Despite speculation that the franchise may delay his return until next season, Wizards general manager Will Dawkins made it clear the organization has not ruled out a 2025-26 debut.

“The plan for A.D. right now is to go back to Dallas and finish his rehab,” Dawkins said, via The Athletic. “He has a really good team down there. Our doctors met with them, and our medical staff’s going to go down with him. So, we want to keep that good thing going that he has.”

Even if Davis is unable to return to game action this season, the Wizards expect him to remain closely involved with the organization moving forward.

Dawkins confirmed the expectation that Davis will be with the team after the All-Star break regardless of his playing status, signaling the franchise’s commitment to integrating him into its future plans.

The uncertainty surrounding Davis intensified after Chris Haynes reported that the 10-time All-Star was expected to sit out the remainder of the season to focus on entering 2026-27 fully healthy.

The 32-year-old appeared in just 20 games this season with Dallas, which would represent the lowest total of his career if he does not return.

Washington’s long-term vision centers heavily on Davis forming a veteran partnership with star guard Trae Young, who is also sidelined with injuries.

Young has been out since late December with MCL and quadriceps issues, further complicating the Wizards’ current season but potentially strengthening their position in a loaded upcoming draft.
