Waived by the New York Liberty on Aug. 1, Sherrod appeared in 28 games across two seasons with the Liberty, averaging 1.5 points, 0.5 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 0.5 steals on 38.2% shooting in 5.0 minutes per game.
Minnesota’s move came alongside back-end roster churn: the club released Yvonne Anderson on Saturday and signed forward Camryn Taylor to a seven-day deal on Friday, part of a week that also featured a trade for DiJonai Carrington ahead of the WNBA deadline.
Interestingly, Minnesota flies to New York for Sunday’s 12:30 a.m. ET tip to face off against the Liberty, Sherrod’s former team.

Jaylyn Sherrod’s Time With the New York Liberty
Sherrod’s two-year stint in New York overlapped with the franchise’s first WNBA title in 2024, where she learned behind Courtney Vandersloot and, this season, alongside Natasha Cloud.
The Liberty waived her on Aug. 1 amid roster rebalancing to add Emma Meesseman, as the team sought frontcourt cover while navigating injuries to Breanna Stewart, Nyara Sabally and Kennedy Burke.
The move to Minnesota gives Sherrod a fresh runway on a contender with a defined defensive identity and a need for perimeter pressure off the bench.

Minnesota’s 2025 Season So Far: How Jaylyn Sherrod Can Help
The Lynx sit atop the standings and have already banked statement victories, including a nine-game win streak to start the year that featured victories over playoff contenders like the Phoenix Mercury (twice), Seattle Storm, Golden State Valkyries and Los Angeles Sparks.
Recently, Minnesota has won eight of its last nine games, including a 100-93 win over the Liberty on July 30 and a 111–58 rout of the Las Vegas Aces on Aug. 2.

The Lynx are 26-5, pacing the league and aiming for the top overall seed in the playoffs. They lead the Liberty (20-10) by 5.5 games.
Sherrod’s on-ball pressure, pace and energy align with Minnesota’s need to disrupt primary creators, like New York’s Sabrina Ionescu, while preserving the minutes of starting guards Kayla McBride and Courtney Williams.
New York, meanwhile, is integrating Meesseman and working back to full health with the hope of securing a fourth straight win after a four-game slump at the end of July.

For a matchup that already carries Finals overtones, this late-season roster tweak layers in one more variable and one more reason Sunday’s match should offer clarity on where the playoff race stands now.
