This week, Cunningham had something to say about the WNBA after she was apparently fined over a TikTok video. Cunningham’s video which was allegedly aimed at referees and appeared to mock them.
The video has over 1.2 million views, 160,000 likes and 2,900 comments and was clearly very well-received by fans. Well, the WNBA didn’t appreciate her attempt at humor and fined her $500 for making it.
“I got fined $500 for this TikTok 🤣🤣 idk why this is funny to me… like ok 👍🏼 you got it bud! Cause there’s not more important things to be worried about with our league right now,” Cunningham wrote on X.

The video is still up by the way.
Fans collectively shook their heads at the WNBA for fining her. Some joked that the WNBA must be strapped for cash if they’re charging her for such a small thing.
“Start a go fund me and keep them rolling. The refs think y’all play street ball in west Philly…” one user remarked.
“Wow, is this how the league plans to make money?” another joked.
“The league needs the money more than you do.”

“The endless WNBA war on the people who are bringing attention to their product while protecting the behavior that turns people off NEVER ceases to amazed me.”
“Next game everyone needs to wear boxing gloves out for warm ups….maybe…just maybe the refs would take a hint…”
“How dare you show your personality and have fun to go along with your great appearance and athletic ability. I guess this is a threat to the WNBA…”

In fairness, a video like that probably wouldn’t be tolerated in the NBA or NFL either. And the fines in those leagues would probably be larger.
That said, the WNBA has long been accused of stifling the people that are seen as popular while doing little to address other troublesome behaviors.
Maybe this fine will bring some extra attention and convince the league to at least review their own policies.
