The Las Vegas Aces are up 2-0 on the Phoenix Mercury, taking one game at a time in the first seven-game WNBA Finals series while nearing dynasty status.
The Mercury will host the Aces for a pivotal Game 3 on Wednesday night.

Becky Hammon’s Aces are two wins away from their third championship in the past four seasons. They came back from nine points down in the second half to seize Game 1. Their bench outscored the Mercury’s 41-16, in large thanks to Dana Evans, who scored 21 points and became the first player to ever record five 3-pointers and four steals in a WNBA Finals game.
Mercury standout Alyssa Thomas, who nearly notched her third WNBA Finals triple-double, missed two costly free throws with 24.6 seconds left and her team trailing by one. Conversely, the Aces iced the 89-86 win at the charity stripe.

In Game 2, the stars took center stage in Vegas. Four-time league MVP A’ja Wilson scored 28 points, and her 13 in the second quarter were more than the Mercury totaled in that period. Jackie Young piled up 32 points, the most an Aces player has ever scored in a WNBA Finals game.

Thomas got in foul trouble, and Phoenix shot a mere 17.9% from the 3-point line. While Kahleah Copper and Satou Sabally scored 23 and 22 points, respectively, not much else went right for Phoenix after its 27-point opening quarter.
“We’ve been down before. We’ve been overlooked,” Mercury head coach Nate Tibbetts said after a 91-78 Game 2 defeat. “You know, obviously, people are going to start talking about how good Las Vegas has been, and they should.
“We’ve kind of always bounced back, right, and so we’re excited to go home to play in our home arena.”
