Caitlin Clark has been ruled out for the rest of this season.
The WNBA superstar and Indiana Fever guard revealed on social media Thursday, Sept. 4, that the rehab process for her right groin injury won’t be complete. She has been sidelined since July 15.

“I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season,” Clark said. “I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling. I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty.
“This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good. The way the fans continued to show up for me, and for the Fever, brought me so much joy and important perspective. I am so proud of how this team has only gotten stronger through adversity this year. Now it’s time to close out the season and claim our spot in the playoffs,” Clark continued.
The former No. 1 overall pick and 2024 Rookie of the Year suffered her injury in the Fever’s 85-77 win at Connecticut on July 15.

Clark missed the Fever’s 85-79 loss at the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday, Sept. 2, and was out for both teams’ entire three-game season series that Phoenix won, 2-1. On Aug. 7, she reportedly also had a mild bone bruise in her left ankle as she trained in Phoenix during her absence.
“Caitlin has worked so hard throughout this time, doing everything possible to recover and return to the court but, ultimately, time is not on our side,” Indiana Fever COO and GM Amber Cox said in a release.
“While we will continue working with Caitlin and provide her with every resource we have available, there is not enough time left in our season for her to safely return, and her long-term health and well-being remains our top priority. We are looking forward to having her back at full strength to start the 2026 season.”
Clark played in just 13 games this season, averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game. She helped lead the Fever to the 2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup title over the league’s No. 1 team Minnesota Lynx, on July 1.

Clark was an All-Star for the second straight season and was the captain for Team Clark, which lost to Team Collier (named after Minnesota’s MVP candidate Napheesa Collier) in the 2025 Indianapolis All-Star Game.
The Fever (21-20) are currently in eighth place, hoping to hold that final playoff spot with three games left before the postseason begins Sept. 14.
