When the 37-year-old checked into the game with 7 minutes, 2 seconds left in the first quarter, she was met with a flurry of boos from the crowd. She ended the 107-101 loss to the Fever with just four points in 21 minutes of action.
Bonner Teammate Was Not Happy
Bonner’s teammate, guard Kahleah Copper, wasn’t pleased with the fan’s actions, which she called “distasteful.”
“It’s very distasteful for what their fan base is doing as far as when it comes to DB because she’s sweet or so in the situation, didn’t work for her,” Copper told reporters during a postgame press conference.

Her comments came after Bonner returned to Phoenix on July 8 after starting the season with Indiana. She struggled to get into a rhythm and averaged 7.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game, falling short of the 15 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists per game she had in 2024 with the Connecticut Sun.
A Different Perspective on the Situation
Minnesota Lynx guards Natisha Hiedeman and Courtney Williams, better known on the streaming platform Twitch as Studbudz, didn’t have much of a problem with the Fever fans booing Bonner.

“If you left Minnesota tomorrow, they would boo the [expletive] out of you,” Hiedeman said to Williams.
“Booing is a sign of respect,” Williams responded. “That’s like Kyrie [Irving] every time he goes back to Boston; it comes with the sport.”
Bonner and the Mercury are back in action on Friday against the Atlanta Dream at 7:30 p.m. ET. They have two more games against the Fever before the end of the season on Thursday and Sept. 2 at PHX Arena in Phoenix.
