World Archery Africa executive board member Karim Farhat passed away on 11 July at the age of 59.

Farhat served as president of the Libyan archery federation from 2017 until this past April, and was a current member of the executive boards of World Archery Africa and the Libyan Olympic Committee.

A dedicated advocate for archery, he played a vital role in developing the sport in Libya and across the African continent, supporting the organisation of events and the emergence of new generations of athletes.

“Karim was a passionate supporter of archery and sport more broadly. He was instrumental in strengthening Libya’s presence in international forums and worked tirelessly to grow the sport in the region,” said World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen.

World Archery extends its sympathies to his family, friends and the entire archery community in Libya and Africa.
