The August 11th edition of WWE RAW saw Asuka slowly display a heel character once again as she argued with IYO SKY. It now appears that WWE initially had different plans for Asuka’s current character arc.
According to PWInsider, Asuka’s heel turn was originally planned as a slow burn over several weeks, but after WWE Raw plans changed when Naomi was pulled, the company decided to speed up the storyline.
This comes after Naomi was pulled from her Women’s Title match against IYO SKY and so SKY had to face Roxanne Perez instead. During the match, Asuka and Kairi Sane provided a distraction for SKY but it backfired as SKY lost.
Following the loss, SKY was yelling at Asuka and Kairi Sane as they got into an argument over what happened. At the end, Asuka screamed at SKY as she pushed her and went off, showing signs of her heel turn.
This change in plans not only affects what Asuka does next but could also speed up problems with SKY, possibly leading to big storyline changes as we head towards Clash in Paris. Therefore, we’ll have to wait and see how WWE handles Asuka’s heel turn.
Should WWE have stuck with the original slow-burn plan for Asuka’s heel turn, or was this last-minute change the right move? Sound off in the comments.
