Just before NXT No Mercy kicks off, WWE has announced a big change to the card. Originally scheduled to defend her Women’s Speed Championship against Lainey Reid, Sol Ruca will now put her title on the line against a mystery opponent after Reid was pulled from the show.
The update came directly from WWE NXT’s official social media account, with Shawn Michaels confirming Reid is not medically cleared to compete. Despite the shakeup, Ruca will still step into the ring tonight at No Mercy with her championship on the line. The post read:
“Per Shawn Michaels, Lainey Reid is not medically cleared to compete. However, Sol Ruca will still defend her Women’s Speed Championship TONIGHT at #NXTNoMercy against an unknown opponent.”
This change adds to the unpredictability to an already stacked card. Fans were looking forward to Reid’s big title shot after earning her spot through a tournament, but now the spotlight shifts to whoever WWE picks as the surprise challenger. With the entire NXT roster—and possibly even names outside of it—on the table, speculation is running wild about who will step up to face Ruca.
The rest of the No Mercy lineup remains intact, with Oba Femi defending the NXT Championship against Ricky Saints, Jacy Jayne putting her Women’s Title on the line against Lola Vice, Ethan Page clashing with Tavion Heights for the North American Championship, Jordynne Grace stepping into a weaponized steel cage against Blake Monroe, and Je’Von Evans facing Josh Briggs.
NXT No Mercy 2025 takes place tonight, September 27, at FTL War Memorial in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The pre-show begins at 6 PM ET with the main card kicking off at 7 PM ET, streaming on Peacock in the U.S. and Netflix internationally. Ringside News will have live play-by-play coverage here.
