Some people won’t see John Cena on his retirement tour.
John Cena’s retirement tour was put together with very careful hands, because there are a ton of moving pieces in place. That being said, adding any event to the list knocks another city out of the running to host the Greatest Of All Time one last time.
Billi Bhatti spoke on the Dirty Sheets Wrestling Informer podcast about John Cena’s retirement tour. He revealed that Brock Lesnar stepping up to face him out of the blue actually nixed a match against AJ Styles. He also went into the fact that the WrestlePalooza event itself is robbing a city of Cena.
“The John Cena farewell tour was supposed to be essentially him saying farewell to individual places… Vegas, Saudi Arabia, Indianapolis… all these were meant to be final appearances.”
“This was one of the main reasons why John Cena didn’t appear in Boston, because everybody knew that the final John Cena appearance was going to be in Boston. Therefore, he didn’t want to do an additional appearance in Boston, even though it was his hometown and it left people massively disappointed. But everybody knew that John Cena would be finishing off in Boston.”
“Now, as a consequence of John Cena having to now wrestle at WrestlePalooza… John Cena will now be off a scheduled appearance on Friday 26th September in Orlando, Florida. So John Cena’s final appearance ever in Orlando… is now gone.”
“John Cena will also not be appearing in Dallas, Texas on Monday 6th October. That part of his farewell tour is gone at the moment… Another one that seems to be gone right now is Oklahoma City on Monday 24th November.”
“Now in my opinion, I expect Oklahoma or Dallas to reappear… I think Orlando is dead and buried.”
Indianapolis was very happy to hear about the WrestlePalooza event. September 20 will be a massive show, and John Cena has been advertised for the ESPN special. Although Brock Lesnar hasn’t been confirmed as his opponent, odds are that will happen. The two may not touch each other until then, but that’s another story.
John Cena loves his fans, so we will have to see if he does them a solid and sticks to all of his dates. That being said, he can’t do anything about the red tape included with his kind of complex contract.
We will keep a very close eye on John Cena’s retirement tour. When it was first announced. The company put out a t-shirt with all of those scheduled dates on it. September 20 is certainly a new date, so we will have to see what happens with the rest of that tour.
