Tonight’s WWE SmackDown, airing August 8, 2025, promises an action-packed night live from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Québec, Canada. The post-WWE SummerSlam show sees “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes make his return to the blue brand as Undisputed WWE Champion. Plus, 17-time World Champion John Cena will addresses the shocking return of “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.

WWE SmackDown Results (8/8/25): Live Match Updates and Highlights

The show opens up with a video package recapping this past weekend’s WWE SummerSlam PLE. Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett then welcomes us to the show and John Cena’s music hits.

Cena then makes his way down to the ring and grabs a mic. Cena starts off by saying he and the WWE Universe have come a long way. Cena then says WWE was afraid to come to Montreal because of the history in this building. Cena then says they were afraid that the audience would hijack the show. Cena then says he was never afraid of that because the audience is the show. Cena then says if you are watching at home you have to let them go and you want to be there. Cena then says there are people everywhere. Cena then says the noise in there is deafening and he can barely hear himself talk. Cena then says you can feel it through your screens. Cena then says imagine trying to plan a show around the fans. Cena then says it can get scary when they start singing and the crowd starts to sing.

Cena then says some performers might be scared or afraid. Cena then says they might ask what do I do. Cena then says he might have fears, but he goes right into it and lets everyone enjoy and embrace every second. Cena then says it doesn’t last forever. The crowd then thanks Cena and he starts to tear up. Cena then says he has been coming here for over two decades and he has shared many valuable moments in this ring and he tells the crowd thank you. Cena then says after tonight he has 11 appearances left. Cena then says he is starting to understand that. Cena then says he gets more afraid every single day. Cena then says he thanks the fans for that. Cena then says he wants to lean into this and get it off his chest. Cena then says he wants to be honest and vulnerable. Cena then says in this limited time he is afraid he cannot give enough and will let the fans down. Cena then says he is afraid that after he is gone and WWE moves on the fans are going to forget about him.

Cena then says he is afraid of Brock Lesnar. Cena then says he wonders in what universe he would choose Brock as an opponent. Cena then says there is no universe where he would back down from Brock Lesnar. Cena then says is he afraid, Yes. Cena then says he is afraid that Brock Lesnar got him a John Cena problem. Cena then says everyone in the back got themselves a John Cena problem. Cena then says he is not going down without a fight. Cena then says Brock, when you want some, come get some. Cena then says anyone who is brave enough to go face to face with The Last Real Champion, he will be going down gun blazing. Cena then says the last time is now and if you want some.

Logan Paul’s music then hits and he makes his way onto the stage. Paul tells Cena and crowd to hear him out. Paul then says whatever this is, whatever version of Cena this is, it is making him sick. Paul then says he respected Cena, but now he doesn’t know him. Paul then tells Cena he doesn’t know who he is. Paul then says the people doesn’t know who he is. Paul then says whether you like it or not Cena said it himself. Cena then says Paul does WWE better than any professional wrestler, including himself. Cena then says Paul did WWE better than anyone else, but Paul is the biggest dumb ass he has ever seen. Paul then says Cena is a liar. Paul then says he is the show. Paul then says John Cena has turned into a charity case. Paul then says if Cena is handing out matches, he wants one.

Cena then asks Paul if he wants a match and Paul tells Cena he wants one. Paul then tells Cena that is what he wants. Paul then says he wants Cena in a french speaking city in France. Paul then says Montreal does not deserve this. Paul then says this match is box office. Drew McIntyre then attacks Cena from behind and Paul joins in the attack. They then kick Cena until Cody Rhodes’ music hits and Rhodes goes after McIntyre, while Cena goes after Paul and they are sent to the floor. Cena then accepts the match for Clash In Paris. Cena then says if they two want a fight he might have a partner. Cena then says why not have a tag match tonight. Cena then says, “The champ is here!”

We then head to the back, where The Motor City Machine Guns are asked by Cathy Kelley about their match at SummerSlam and their match tonight. Shelley says they are both taped up and that match was brutal, but they have made a legacy of getting knocked down and getting back up. Sabin then says they didn’t get the job done at SummerSlam, but they know what it takes to become champions again and the road to the top begins tonight.

Motor City Machine Guns then make their way down to the ring for the first match of the night and MFT follow.

Tag Team Match: Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) vs. MFT (Talla Tonga and JC Mateo)

The match starts off with JC Mateo and Alex Shelley and Shelley avoids Talla Tonga on the apron, but Mateo hits some punches on him. Shelley then hits some punches and a side head lock. Sabin then makes the blind tag and they hit a drop kick and a flatliner combination on Mateo. They then knock Tonga and Mateo to the floor. Sabin then hits a suicide dive on Mateo. Shelley then avoids Tonga and Sabin and Shelley then kick him. They then hit a shoulder and elbow on Mateo in the corner. Shelley then tags in and Tonga Loa distracts the referee. Talla Tonga then pulls Shelley off the apron and sends him into the ringside barrier.

Solo Sikoa then lounges at ringside, while Mateo punches Shelley in the ribs after he is returned to the ring. Shelley then hits a jaw breaker and Mateo stops Shelley from making the tag. Mateo then hits some kicks and a short arm clothesline. Mateo then sends Shelley into the turnbuckles. Talla then tags in and he hits a clothesline into the corner. Talla then hits a back elbow and a leaping elbow drop. Shelley then hits some punches and Talla hits a forearm and a head butt. Talla then chokes Shelley and Tonga Loa hits some punches, while the referee talks to Talla. Talla then hits a cross face and a second one. Talla then hits a forearm to the injured ribs. Talla then hits an Irish whip and a back breaker, then he stretches Shelley over his knee.

Shelley then hits some punches and Talla lets go. Talla then cinches in a bear hug. Shelley then hits some punches to escape, but Talla hits a clothesline. Shelley then sends Talla into the turnbuckles and Mateo tags in and applies a waist lock. Shelley then hits some elbows and a boot. Sabin then tags in and he hist a cross body. Sabin then hits some punches and a clothesline, but Mateo does not move. Sabin then tries again and gets the same result. Sabin then hits a thrust kick and a springboard tornado DDT for a near fall. Shelley then tags in and they hits a series of kicks. Mateo then stays standing, but Sabin nails him with a Tornado DDT out of the corner and goes for a pin. Mateo then kicks out. Motor City Machine Guns then set up for Skull and Bones, but Talla tags in and comes to Mateo’s aid. He then hits a chokeslam on Sabin for the win.

After the match, Sikoa grabs a microphone and says the fans are looking at the soon to be WWE Tag Team Champions in Mateo and Talla Tonga and the most dominant United States Champion ever in himself. Sikoa then says he’s ready to fight, but no one in the back can fight him and says himself and the rest of MFT are planning on leaving Montreal to celebrate. Nick Aldis then stops MFT from leaving the ring, then informs Sikoa that he has a special guest who wants to fight. Aldis then says he is someone Sikoa knows well and someone Montreal knows very well. Sami Zayn’s music then hits and he makes his way down to the ring.

Non-Title Match: MFT’s WWE United States Champion Solo Sikoa vs. Sami Zayn

The match starts off with both men locking up and Sikoa backing Zayn into the corner. Sikoa then asks Zayn if he is ready to come back. Sikoa then holds up his finger and Zayn punches Sikoa. Zayn then hits a forearm and an elbow. Sikoa then misses a clothesline and Zayn goes for an exploder, but Sikoa hits an elbow. Zayn then hits a chop and he punches Sikoa on the turnbuckles. Sikoa then hits a clothesline. Sikoa then hits a chop and he climbs the turnbuckles to punch Zayn. Zayn then goes under and sends Sikoa into the turnbuckles. Zayn then hits some punches from the turnbuckles. Zayn then hits a chop and he springboards over Sikoa and clotheslines Sikoa to the floor. Zayn then hits a flip dive onto Sikoa. Zayn is surrounded and he sends Sikoa into the ring and he gets back into the ring. Zayn then hits a punch and a chop. Zayn then hits a back elbow and Talla hits a clothesline when Sikoa distracts the referee.

Tonga Loa then takes a cheap shot at Zayn from the outside, while Sikoa distracts the referee again. Sikoa then hits a Samoan Drop on Zayn and Mateo hits a cheap shot on Zayn. He then places him on the top rope, then joins him up there and sets up for a Samoan Drop. Zayn then counters into a Sunset Flip Powerbomb and goes for a pin, but Sikoa kicks out. Sikoa then delivers some right hands on Zayn and a headbutt to him, then calls for the Samoan Spike.

Zayn then kicks Sikoa’s thumb away, then hits a second kick on him and follows it up with an Exploder. Loa then hops up on the apron and Sikoa tries blindsiding Zayn, but Zayn sees him coming and hits an Exploder to him in the corner. Mateo then hops up on the apron as Zayn sets up for the Helluva Kick on Zayn, but Zayn hits a right hand on him. As the referee checks on Mateo, Talla stares down Zayn. Sikoa then looks to surprise Zayn with a Samoan Spike, but Zayn sees him coming and rolls up Sikoa for the win.

After the match, Sikoa is stunned. Zayn then quickly gets out of the ring before the MFTs can attack him.

We then head to the back, where Charlotte Flair tells Alexa Bliss that since her birthday is tomorrow, she has something special for her. Bliss then asks where it is and Charlotte says it has to be in front of the fans.

We then take a look at the WWE/ESPN announcement. We are then interrupted by The Wyatt Sicks. Uncle Howdy says they will never lead you astray. Howdy then says when they speak, it will always bear truth. Howdy then says that is what they have always sought out to do. Joe Gacy then says they have shown everyone that all their power is nothing more than a harmless illusion. Dexter Lumis then says they woke them up from their dreams and realize the true realities they have hidden. Nikki Cross then says they made it clear this is not about fame. Erick Rowan then says it is about something so much bigger. Rowan then says there are more lessons to learn. Rowan then says The Wyatt story has only just begun. They all then laugh. The Street Profits and B-Fab are watching and she wonders what that is. #DIY then show up and want to know what did they do and Candice almost got killed. B-Fab then says it was Ciampa and Gargano who did it. Candice then blames The Street Profits. Dawkins then says no one asked her to climb the ladder. Everyone then argues and Nick Aldis enters. He says he figured they would have calmed down after SummerSlam. He then says he is going to take control of the division and next week #DIY will face The Street Profits.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss then make their way down to the ring and there is a cake and a present in the ring. Flair starts off by saying Bliss’ birthday falls on the same day as their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship celebration and while she could have made it about her, she decided to share the spotlight with Bliss. Flair then leads Bliss over to a cake that reads “Congratulations Charlotte Flair” in big text and “P.S. Happy Birthday” in smaller font.

Flair then hands Bliss a present, but Bliss insists that Flair opens it out of fear. Flair then asks Bliss if she remembers what she gave her four years ago, then hands her the Lily doll she gave her with a “we’re not friends” shirt on it. Flair then says she thought Lily should have a tag team partner, then presents a Charlie doll to Bliss before she invites Bliss to hug her.

Chelsea Green’s music then hits and she makes her way down to the ring along with Alba Fyre and Piper Niven. Green then says she wants to turn in her Canadian passport with the Montreal crowd cheering for Bliss and Flair, then says she doesn’t know what Bliss is doing parading around her dolls when her homecoming should be celebrated in Canada. Flair then tells Bliss that her final gift will be beating Green tonight and while Green looks for an out of the match, Nick Aldis appears and makes things official.

We then head to the back, where Carmelo Hayes knocks on Nick Aldis’ office door. The Miz then answers the door and Hayes wasn’t happy to see him. Hayes then says Miz said he was going to help him, but then he disappeared. Hayes then says he was going to talk to Aldis about a U.S. Title Match. Miz then stops him and says he had already went to Aldis and got them a tag team match for next week’s show. Miz then asks Hayes if they were good. Hayes then shakes Miz’s hand and walks away. Nick Aldis then shows up and asks what that was all about. Miz then says Aldis is just the man he wants to talk to.

Singles Match: WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion “The Queen” Charlotte Flair vs. Chelsea Green

The match starts off with both women locking up and Green cinches in a wrist lock. Flair then goes for a reversal and hits a shoulder tackle. Flair then walks over Green’s back and hits her with a thrust kick. Green then goes to the floor and she drops Flair’s throat on the top rope. Flair then hits some chops, but Green sends Flair into the turnbuckles. Flair then returns the favor. Flair then hits a chop and kick in the corner. Green then hits an Irish whip and Flair responds with a Flair flip and she kicks Piper and Green. Flair then avoids Alba and Flair hits a cross body for a near fall. Green then hits an elbow and Piper and Alba try to trip Flair, but they fail. Flair then floats over and gets a near fall with a rollup. Flair is then sent into the turnbuckles on the rollup. Green then sends Flair into the turnbuckles with a curb stomp.

Green then sends Flair face first into the mat. Green then sends Flair to the floor. Flair then gets back into the ring and Green kicks Flair. Green then hits a sliding flatliner for a near fall. Green then hits a kick and she goes for a suplex, but Flair blocks it and gets an inside cradle for a near fall. Green then gets a near fall. Green then blows a kiss to Alexa Bliss before pie facing Flair. Flair then hits some chops and Green pulls Flair to the mat by the hair. Green then cinches in a rear chin lock. Flair then hits a jaw breaker, a back elbow and a kick. Flair then hits a belly-to-back suplex. Green then hits punches and Flair responds with a forearm. Flair then hits more forearms and chops. Flair then hits a walk over clothesline and a German suplex. Green then hits a thrust kick and Flair responds with one of her own. Flair then hits a Natural Selection for a near fall.

Green then hits a boot on the head and sends Flair to the apron. Flair then hits a shoulder and she goes up top, but Green hits her with a slap. Green then goes for a superplex and hits it. Green then gets a near fall. Green then gestures to Piper and Alba to get the cake. They then bring it into the ring and Bliss hits a cannonball off the apron. Green then sets for UnPrettiHer into the cake and Flair hits a reversal and Green lands in the cake. Flair then hits a figure eight and Green taps out.

After the match, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss share some of Chelsea Green’s cake.

We then head to the back, where Cathy Kelley is interviewing WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton. Stratton says she is going to keep doing what she has been doing for the last 216 days and that is keep her title and defend it. Jade Cargill then shows up. Cargill tells Stratton to be thankful her foot found the rope or she would be champion. Cargill then says the story will be different next time. Stratton then says the story may be different, but the result will be the same. Kiana James then tells Cathy Kelley she can leave. James then says if Cargill is looking to get that title around her waist, she can give her a call. James then offers Cargill a card. Michin then shows up and asks Cargill if she is going to do something about that card. She then asks for it so she can get a title match.

Aleister Black then cuts a promo and says he is allowed to use violence to stop a greater violence. Black then says does that make him good or evil. Black then says the only difference is your convictions. The crowd then cheers when Damian Priest tries to send him through a table. He then says it is not an eye for an eye, but an eye for a limb or an eye for a life. Black then says he told Priest that violence begets violence. Black then says he is at home nursing a hairline fracture in his jaw. Black then says when someone pushes you, you push back. Black then says when someone pushes him, he pushes them off the cliff and watches to hear the splat. Black then says does that make him a scapegoat, then so be it.

We then head to the back, where John Cena is walking and R-Truth shows up. They then act like they are mirror images. Truth then says if Cena is back, then he is back. They then hug. Cena then says he was worried about Truth because he acted really weird for five months. Cena then says Truth changed his hair, was really mean to people and made the kid in Brussels cry. Cena then says Truth claimed he wanted to ruin wrestling, then asks him if he thought that would really work. Cena then tells Truth it is good to have him back, then walks away leaving Truth confused.

Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre then make their way down to the ring for the main event of the night.

Tag Team Match: John Cena and Undisputed WWE Champion “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes vs. “The Scottish Psychopath” Drew McIntyre and “The Maverick” Logan Paul

The match starts off with Cody Rhodes and Logan Paul and Rhodes has his head on a swivel to avoid being attacked from behind by Drew McIntyre. Both men then lock up and Rhodes hits a side head lock and a shoulder tackle. Rhodes then hits a cartwheel and a wrist lock. Paul then hits a knee and a side head lock. Rhodes then hits a forearm to the back and a kick, then follows it up with drop down jab. Rhodes then hits a delayed gourdbuster. Rhodes then asks the crowd if he should tag in Cena, but Paul gets a rollup for a near fall. McIntyre then tags in and he punches Rhodes. McIntyre then hits some chops in the corner. McIntyre then hits an Irish whip and Rhodes floats over and hits a power slam. Rhodes then a back elbow and he avoids a clothesline from Paul. Rhodes then knocks Paul off the apron and McIntyre hits a head butt. McIntyre then sends Rhodes to the floor in front of Paul. Paul then clotheslines Rhodes.

Rhodes then hits some punches to McIntyre on the floor and McIntyre sends Rhodes into the ring steps. They then return to the ring and McIntyre stomps on the hand. Paul then tags in and they hit a double suplex. Paul then gets a near fall. Paul then hits a reverse chin lock and Rhodes hits some elbows, but Paul hits a punch. Logan with a gutwrench suplex for a near fall. Logan sends Cody into his corner and he punches Cody. Drew tags in and he sets for a delayed vertical suplex and he hits it. Drew gets a near fall. Drew keeps Cody from making the tag and Cody with punches. Drew with an Irish whip and Cody tries to leap into his corner but Drew stops him. Drew charges into the corner and Drew misses and hits the ring post shoulder first. Cena and Logan make the tag.

Cena with two flying shoulder tackles and a Blue Thunder Bomb. Cena sets for the Five Knuckle Shuffle and hits it. Cena gets Logan up and hits the Attitude Adjustment but Drew breaks up the cover. Drew sets for a Claymore but Cody with a super kick and he clotheslines Drew over the top rope and then hits a suicide dive on Drew. Logan with a low blow to Cena and the referee calls for the bell.

After the match, Logan Paul and John Cena fight to the back while Rhodes sends McIntyre into the ringside barrier and the ring steps. Rhodes then adjusts the announce desk. McIntyre then hits Rhodes with the title belt. McIntyre then holds the title belt and he is obsessed. McIntyre then refuses to surrender the title belt and he puts it down on the steps for a second. McIntyre then hits a Claymore on Rhodes against the announce desk and berates him. McIntyre then stands tall as the show comes to a close.
