WWE’s ‘Unreal’ Accused of Faking Backstage Booking Scenes

by

WWE’s Netflix series Unreal is meant to peel back the curtain on what really goes on behind the scenes—but one insider says the show is faking the drama for the cameras.

During the Dirty Sheets Wrestling Informer podcast, Billi Bhatti tore into Unreal, claiming that while the show pretends to offer a raw look at WWE creative, many of the segments are scripted for dramatic effect. According to him, the series manufactures tension in scenes that had already been resolved long before the cameras rolled.

“Another thing that is very fake is the documentary. Unreal. Parts of it are real but more or less this is a staged documentary by the WWE and there are even staged scenes in there.”

Bhatti specifically pointed to the booking discussion for WrestleMania Night One’s triple threat between Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and CM Punk. On the show, WWE writers are seen debating who should win—but Bhatti insists the decision had already been locked in.

“Whilst people are correct to get annoyed… you are actually seeing staged inner workings of the WWE. There was no real discussion about who was going to win between CM Punk, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. When I saw that, and I saw all the writers sitting around the room discussing who was going to win that match after it was already booked, I knew the whole show was pretty much staged.”

He explained that WWE always intended for Seth Rollins to win the match and form a new faction with Paul Heyman—making the entire debate scene pointless.

“The only reason you did that match and turned it into a triple threat was to give Seth Rollins a faction. We knew Seth Rollins was going to be leading a faction and we knew Paul Heyman was going to be tied to him when that match was made. We knew Seth Rollins was going to be the winner. And therefore, Unreal released a staged scene where WWE were fake talking about the winner of that WrestleMania main event.”

Bhatti then questioned the authenticity of other scenes in the series, including the Royal Rumble booking segment that showed WWE’s creative team debating the winner.

“Which makes me feel like they were fake booking the Royal Rumble winner as well. Where the decision for Jey was probably made, but they decided for the sake of the documentary, let’s release a scene where we talk about this particular thing. So there’s a lot of fake stuff in there. The premise is real… but the scenes they’ve chosen to give you are not real.”

If Bhatti’s claims are true, it throws WWE’s entire “behind-the-scenes” narrative into question. Unreal may still offer value as entertainment—but viewers hoping for authenticity might be left disappointed.
