Xander Schauffele evaluates Europe’s Ryder Cup team quality

by

Xander Schauffele did not excel this year as in the previous season, when he was one of the best individuals together with Scottie Scheffler. However, he still belongs to the very top of golf and will be an important figure for the American team on its way to victory.

The 31-year-old golfer, guest on the 4Play podcast, drew a parallel between the European and American teams. While some believe the Americans have a significantly stronger team, those differences appear to be minimal.

The only reason why the Americans show great optimism is the support of the home crowd, which proved to be the key to success in previous editions.

Scheffler shared his views on both teams, stressing that they are of similar quality, but emphasizing how important preparation is and how important it can be.

“It was talked about at a couple of the dinners. Edoardo did a great job for them, setting Rome up perfectly. We have our scouts and I think they do a great job as well,” he said, as quoted by The Golfing Gazette.

“I feel like these teams are pretty close. I don’t sit here and think this team is way better than that team. I feel like they are pretty close. And I feel pretty evenly matched.

There is no big distance bias, it’s not like everyone is way better at this or that. Scottie keeps talking about preparation. I think the team that is the most prepared, it being three or four weeks after our final event is a big deal."

Great opportunity: What can we expect?

Perhaps this will be a great opportunity for the 31-year-old golfer to, in a way, save the season and help his team win the trophy.

Xander did not excel this season, that is, he was not at the level we are used to, although he had several great performances.

His experience and qualities could decide this year's edition, but it is crucial that each individual is maximally focused.
